I used to play lots of little instruments, infatuated as I was with The Art Ensemble of Chicago and all things AACM, and though that love affair has not (and never will) ended, my desire to incorporate the little instruments into my thing has waned somewhat over time. But the moxeño has stuck with me, a formidable friend and foe, a true trickster; it remains in my bag with the cornet and the upstart violin, always ready to upend things at a moment's notice. It is Andean and I am not, but sometimes we get along quite well, and sometimes, as you'll hear, we do not.
